Traveling Toddlers in a Taxi

Does anyone have any experience traveling in cabs with small children?

I have a friend that is going to NYC this weekend by train with his family and will most likely have to take cabs while in the city.

His son is about 15 months old and of course would normally be in a car seat. Ideally he would bring the car seat along but if he could avoid it, that would be his preference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  1. The Stroll N Go is a carseat and stroller in one. We have one and though it isn't a great stroller (comparable to $20 umbrella stroller quality) it does the job. Otherwise, if she is comfortable letting her child ride without buckling up she could check the NYC laws and find out if it is legal.

  2. I am not sure this will work if they just want random cabs to get around, but I know here in Boston some cab companies will provide a carseat if you call in advance. We've done it on the way to the airport when we are going to have a car seat at our destination. So, if they just need one to and from the train station they might be able to arrange ahead of time.

We've taken Mia to NYC and just took the subway everywhere we went. We did drive there, but once there we only went places we could get on public transportation and never used a car seat during our visit.
